A Portrait of Care’ was a collaborative project facilitated by Rosie Canning & the University of Southampton, Widening Participation Department. The project formed an online exhibition via Instagram using self-portraiture as a way to combat the negative stereotypes people hold about children in care. The project featured during National Care Leavers Week # NCLW2020 between 26 October and 1 November 2020.

Among the first 30 participants, 10 winners were chosen to have their portrait created by care experienced artists.

Saira-Jayne was selected as one of 10 care experienced artists to create a portrait of one of the winning participants Chloe. Once the artwork was completed Saira-Jayne gifted the piece to Chloe.
